How to Batch Rename Files Easily

Rename multiple files in seconds using Bulk Rename Utility

Let me start with the main point: if you want to rename a few or even dozens of files at once, the tool I use is called Bulk Rename Utility.

🪛 Step 1: Download and Install the Tool

Go to the Bulk Rename Utility website and click the download button. After downloading, install the program and launch it.

🧘 Step 2: Don’t Panic

At first glance, the screen may look overwhelming. But the good news is that you don’t need to use every option. Just focus on the parts you need. The preview section shows you exactly how the file names will look before making any changes. Nothing gets renamed until you click Rename, so you’re in full control.

✍️ Step 3: Basic Renaming

Let’s try a simple renaming task.

  • On the top-left, select the folder that contains the files you want to rename.

  • Then on the right, select the files.

Now look at the bottom section of the window. Find the Case (4) box and choose Upper. This will convert all file names to uppercase.

Check the preview area on the top right to see how the file names will change. If it looks good, click Rename. The program may ask you to confirm once or twice. After that, your files will be renamed.

🧩 Step 4: Advanced Options

Here are some of the most useful features in the tool:

  • Replace (3): Replace specific words in the file names

  • Name (2): Set a completely new name for all files

  • Remove (5): Remove specific characters, numbers, or symbols

  • Case (4): Change case to uppercase, lowercase, or title case

  • Move/Copy (6): Move parts of the file name to a different position

  • Add (7): Add a word or character anywhere in the name

  • Date (8): Add file creation, modified, or current date and time

  • Append Folder Name (9): Add the folder name to the file names

  • Numbering (10): Add numbering like 01 to 99 at the beginning or end

  • Extension (11): Change or remove file extensions

  • Filters (12): Filter by file type (e.g., *.jpg for image files)

  • Copy/Move to Location (13): Move or copy renamed files to another folder

When you're ready, click the Rename button at the bottom.

✅ Final Thoughts

Bulk Rename Utility is powerful and fast once you get the hang of it. It may look a bit technical at first, but it saves a lot of time. I hope this guide makes your renaming tasks easier. If it does, say a little thank you and feel free to share this with someone who needs it.
